If our computer especially slow or notes that rare things are happening – files that disappear, that do not open or that block the system – it is very possible that your problem has a name: virus! Before you panic or throw your computer, rest and breathe. It is usually possible to eliminate viruses from the system and is usually not especially complicated. You don’t know where to start? Here we tell you how to clean your computer from viruses.
Get an antivirus
This is the most important point and that will prevent your computer from becoming infected again in the future. Download and install a good antivirus. There are quite a few free ones that you can get online easily, here are some examples:
- Malware bytes Anti-Malware 2.0
- Panda Free Antivirus
- AVG Antivirus Free
- Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition
Update your antivirus
Did you already have antivirus and still got infected? You may not have it updated. It is very important to always update it, since cybercriminals are continuously releasing new versions and forms of malware.
Analyze your equipment
Now that your computer has antivirus installed and updated, it’s time to see if it really has viruses and what they are. For them, perform a scan of the computer with the antivirus. Most security programs offer two types of analysis, one fast and one in depth. We recommend doing the latter, although it takes much longer.
It is very likely that your antivirus will eliminate all the viruses it finds, but in some cases it will ask for your authorization. Delete all infected or suspicious files found by the software.
Format the computer (or take it to a technical center)
If all else fails, you have two options. One is to take things by your hand and format the equipment. Do it only if you have some computer skills and are aware of the risks. The other option will cost you some money, but it is the safest and most practical: take your computer to a technical center, explain what your problems are (and what you have done) and wait for your response. If it is fixed, your computer will be returned as new.
